Making it Count

2008-02-04%2001.jpg

So my voting machine malfunctioned this morning. I'm still not 100% clear on what happened, except that once I pulled the main lever the machine would not allow me to select any candidates. I spent about five minutes trying to find out what I might have done wrong, then resorted to asking for help, which was rather embarrassing but no doubt the responsible thing to do. The first person couldn't figure out why I couldn't cast a vote and began fiddling with a myriad of levers. This was rather disconcerting, as she was attempting to depress levers for people who I did not want to vote for.

Four volunteer workers later (at one point, all four and I were in the booth together, kind of like a clown car), everyone saw who I voted for and it was (somewhat) determined that the person before me had not fully pulled their lever back at the end of their voting session. So basically, I'm not really sure if my vote counted, nor am I sure that the person's before me did, either.

It's pretty obvious that I've been a bit absent as of late. I've been suffering (or maybe just experiencing) a bout of blogger's block, which probably isn't a bad thing. I have a lot of balls in the air and am contemplating a new format for a bit- the use of callalillie to tell one story over a period of time. The goal would be to find a way to make the research that I have been doing accessible to the general public, as I have not been loving academia as of late. What matters most to me is making the work that I have done available to everyone, not just academics, and I think that I can tell the story in an engaging way that people from a variety of backgrounds might find interesting. We'll see if that works out. In the meantime, I just have a ton of work to do.

Finally, I will leave you with this, dug out from the 2004 archives, because Irving really does say it best:

In my opinion, Irving's butt says it all.

Really, I think you should produce a line of notecards: "Say it with Irving."

I believe they imported that voting machine from Florida. Irving, so sage, so...Irving.
Love him. Now, on to the Conventions and November.
Can Irvings' butt handle it all ???
Blog block is just a temporary state. I had a little vampire block, but now I'm just about finished my novel. My brain needed a rest. I voted anyway.
