Happenings

I feel like time is going incredibly fast and slow at the same time. The weeks/months seem to be crawling...but at the same time, I turn around on Monday and suddenly it is Sunday again.
Happenings from this past fast/slow week:
- On early, early Saturday morning I woke up and decided to attack our front garden bed. Despite my attempts at pruning it in the spring, it still kind of looked like this:

This was mainly the result of incredibly unruly lily of the valley plants. I had no idea that they spread themselves so much- digging them out was a huge effort...and while doing so, I must have poked an underground yellow jacket nest with my spade. Luckily, they didn't seem to be the stinging variety, though we did have bees swarming around the front of our house for a day or so.
- Alexis and I took a nice, long walk from our house to the Lower East Side on Sunday (we took the baby for a walk!). The weather was great but after the 4th or 5th mile my feet began to feel like someone was hammering nails into my heels and arches. By the time we got home, they were swollen and achy and I promptly fell asleep on the couch. I thought aching, swollen feet came later in pregnancy! Oh well.
-To follow up on my recent stroller question, we finally found one- the Maclaren Techno XLR. We did a lot of thinking and testing and decided that lighter-weight (16lbs) was probably the best first choice for us. Plus, it holds a car seat if we want one, reclines all the way down and holds a kid up to 65lbs. Though if our child is 65lbs and still in a stroller, I might be a little concerned.
- Finally, we've begun to update our Irving Eats Local(ish) Flickr set to include photos of him with out homegrown produce! Check out Oybean lovin' on some catnip from the garden. I think this is my favorite photo of him thus far.

Hi Corie
I've been reading up and great things you are doing with your garden... It is lovely you have such a great place in the city...
On the baby front, I think you will find counting the weeks will never end. It is like a looong journey, and I remember having similar feelings - even though the weeks seemed to fly by, it was still week 20, 21, 22, 23 and counting what fraction of the pregnancy has been left behind :)
Achy feet and all it is a great adventure. I hope you're having an easy one, and before you know it that day will come and they will just throw her/him onto your lap and you will fall in love.
All the best from Turkey :)

Hola! I did a lot of walking when I was pregnant, right up until the end. My favorite summer shoes were Keen sandals. Definitely worth the $$.
