Because one Can Never Get Enough Irving

Yesterday I finally got around to purchasing a few prints via Etsy for the baby's nursery. We have done much planning on it yet, as we have a few more months before it becomes vital, but Lex and I both agree that we'd like something whimsical. My one wish is that the room remains kind of stereo-type-neutral, as really feel like there are plenty of gender neutral designs that are inspiring and beautiful and in due time, the kid will have it's own idea of what it wants and that may very well be fuchsia walls with ballerinas stenciled on it, so why push it now? Plus who knows, that might be our son's request.

Anyway, I've been following the work of Matte Stephens for a while and decided on three prints- two of NYC scenes and one entitled "Uncle Rutherford takes the kids to school," which is awesome. I wish I had sifted a little more carefully, though, because at closer inspection of Stephens' flickr account, I realized that there are several prints of an orange cat...NAMED IRVING. Perhaps there are more orange cats named Irving in this world than I thought. Regardless, I was impressed.

Aw, we have his Giant Suburban Bear Visits Manhattan and I was very tempted to put it in the baby's room. But then thought it unfair to lay our suburban/urban angst on something so tiny. Love his work though.
