Cusp
I've started and trashed several New Year posts over the past week because none seemed to capture what I have been feeling lately. This morning, however, I sat down at my work desk in my new office and gazed out of my long awaited, greatly needed window and things fell into place.
Alexis and I got to talking about our year over dinner a few nights ago and we agreed that 2008 was a big one for both of us, collectively and individually. I think he summed things up best by saying that 2008 was the Year of Collecting and 2009, well this will be the Year of Creation. We both worked very hard to discover new pieces of ourselves. We gathered together what we knew and pushed hard to collect those things that we needed. We hunkered down in our jobs. We bought a house. I think we both acted more responsibly than we ever have before and are leaving the year behind feeling much older but also far lighter in spirit.
So, 2009. This year, we want to make things, both individually and collectively. Alexis has taken to pickling, canning and beer-making. I am determined to make our compost pile successful. In the spring, we will create and grow a garden. Of course, there are other things- side projects and photographs and little details- but mostly, I hope that we will fall into a new and simple rhythm- one which I believe we have already begun the pace for. If all goes well on the garden front, we will get many summer salads in the process, as well as a small bounty for the pickling and canning in the fall. If all goes well with the rhythm, well, I think think 2009 will be a beautiful year. There is so much to create in a year that promises to be groundbreaking in so, so many ways.
Happy New Year, everyone.
Our little house of humans and cats wish you all the peace happiness has to offer.

Happy New Year! Thanks for a year of great, thoughtful blogging. It's been a pleasure.
(PS Though brazen it is of me to say this but I hope 2009 will be a year of creation in more ways than one for you guys...)
