While We're Gone, Part II of II

or, See You in June

Our bags are packed, the cats are sequestered and we're out the door. Have a wonderful May, everyone. We'll be back soon...but not that soon. In the meantime:

  1. Touch: Beautiful, beautiful blankets for babies and beyond. I know I don't plug baby things here often (and no, it's not a hint), but I've given these blankets as gifts on several occasions and they've worked out quite well. I think they should make adult sized versions for use on picnics, etc. Plus, who could pass up the cutie-pie model?
  2. Taste: Mangoes with lime, salt and cayenne. Get this at the Red Hook ball fields. Even though the hype makes my eyes roll (sometimes a good thing is even better when you discover it by mistake, not from a New York Times food review), the pure ecstasy of spicy, tangy fruit is well worthy of emphasis. We make this at home but it never comes out quite as well as when we get it outside in the park...as desert, of course, after eating a bellyfull of pupusas.
  3. Listen/Look: Snug Harbor: Then and Now. I have always been curious about the history of Snug Harbor and there's probably no one better to teach us about it than Francis Morrone. Looks fascinating (though a tad on the expensive side). Someone needs to check this out and then tell me about it.
  4. Join: The Livable Neighborhoods Program run by the Municipal Arts Society- "transforming community vision into a community plan." Though really for community and grassroots organizations but it's open to everyone. I am really bummed that I will miss both trainings.

Due to a nasty rash of spam, I'm locking comments down tonight until I get back. I hope that everyone has a great beginning of summer. Get out there and explore. I know that we will.

P.S. The Modern Letter Project has received its first press in the Globe & Mail, a Canadian newspaper. Thanks to everyone who helped contribute their thoughts and images. Can someone in Canada send us a paper copy?
