I Climbed Mt. Melmac

  1. Yes, still alive. But busy. Chaotically busy.
  2. ALF was my favorite character as a child. Today he reminds me of Al Bundy crossed with that annoying alien on American Dad.
  3. I am trying to figure out what to do with callalillie while we are away in Turkey. Should it just lie fallow? Should I prep some things for ya'll? Any suggestions? Burning questions you yearn to have answered? Images of things that you'd like to see?
  4. Submitted ideas should not require me to think too much. My brain hurts right now.

I vote for fallow. Holidays are better when it doesn't exhaust you to prepare for them. Look forward to hearing about your trip when you return.

So, let's me honest. The only reason why you befriended me as a small child was because you thought I was related to Alf (Melmac sounded a lot like Melnyk during the Alf craze). Despte the lack of resemblance, of course.

True, that was around that same period. Also the period when you had that crazy headgear for your braces, too.

Wasn't melmac some sort of brand of dishes in the 1950's?

PS I agree with Marcia.

Yes, Melmac indeed was a lovely, plastic dinnerware used in the 50's.....ours was grey with speckles of different colors. It was absolutely unbreakable---hence, quite popular in families with lots of kids. Incredibly, I have found pieces in antique shops lately!

Have a break, and come back refreshed. We'll wait for you!

and just to bring the Melmac conversation full circle - Melmac is made from melamine - the stuff that got into the pet food that poisoned all those pets last week. Alf's terrorist revenge for being canceled???

Yes, take a break. You've earned it!

Meanwhile, we can all just hum "You Can't Go Back to Constantinople" amongst ourselves...hee

Yes, take a well earned break
Bye the bye, Alf would never poison pet food.
He had a fondness for cats...as a snack.

I concur...when you go on vacation, your blog should go on vacation, too!!

Posted by: Nani at April 3, 2007 7:17 PM

I thought about that...but I think that I am going to give myself a vacation from the internet! And cell phone. I'm really excited about the second part. Not so excited about wading through a million emails when I get home.

Posted by: corie at April 3, 2007 7:19 PM

corie, save yourself some time and have a friend check your email daily to delete spam. my brother did this for me last year, when i landed in the hospital for a week. i still had several hundred to go through, but at least the majority of them were actually sent to me personally

Or set your out of office to something that says:

I am on holiday until blah. All emails will be deleted on my return, so please resend anything of critical importance after this date.

Works wonders!

That's what I meant, that your blog should take a vacation... i mean, err... your blog should hibernate while YOU go on vacation. By the way, Kelly is in Turkey. Will you look her up? (You know her blog, I think...)

Posted by: Nani at April 4, 2007 6:34 PM

I concur with all that state you should just let the blog be. Put up a "Gone to Turkey" sign and we'll come back when you're home. Enjoy!

Melmac: We still use melmac at our house. My mother-in-law's turquoise melmac c. 1957. It's gorgeous. I like to think I can cook a bit, but even if I were Rachael Ray, whatever swill I might plop on turquoise melmac would look like a million bucks.
