Flava

This weekend, while stooping down in the kitchen to pick up some fallen shredded coconut, I banged the top of my head on the countertop. Perhaps I was moving more quickly than I thought, or maybe I hit the edge at a strange angle, but the force of impact caused me to groan and sink to the ground, unable to concentrate on anything but the blinding pain and complete disorientation through which I struggled to make out up from down. There is now a gigantic lump on my forehead and it hurts to raise my eyebrows.
I mention this clumsy act because about an hour afterward I encountered something that made it all better-- Bobby Simmons' MySpace page. For those of you who don't know, Bobby Simmons hosted [still hosts? not sure] a Brooklyn public access show called Flava Videos. One afternoon a few years ago, I returned home to find my roommate, Cheesebus, in near tears. Through her laughter, she pointed to the television screen where she was playing, on loop, this footage from the show. We recorded the tail end of the dancing and watched it repeatedly whenever we needed a genuine smile. In fact, I think I actually took it to work so that people could see it.
So now I present to you Crazy Bobby Dance, one of the best video clips on the face of the planet. Or at least on a Saturday evening after hitting your head really, really hard.
[If you have limited time, fast forward to the last four minutes or so in which they do a choreographed dance to "Beat It"].
Good times, people, good times.

I fondly remember watching "Flava" videos in the conference room a couple of years ago. It certainly beat sitting through the usual staff meetiings

That's hilarious! It must be a Michael Jackson kind of day, because I posted a video of a local musician covering his song "Beat It" just before I read this post!
