Darkness

The power in our neighborhood went out for about 30 seconds last night. One moment I was cooking, the next we were in complete darkness, and when I peered out the window so was the surrounding city. And then zip, the lights pumped back on again and everything went back to normal, except for the exceedingly annoying building alarm across the street, which screeched, "Go away! Go away! The police have been called! Robbery! Robbery!" like it is known to do for hours when tripped until its owner is notified.

Power outages suck but the city is so beautiful in its natural darkness. I found myself wishing that the thirty-second dip could have occurred right at the stroke of midnight tomorrow/Monday, like a grand entrance into the New Year.
