Don't Forget

Last night we dropped in on the Forgotten New York book release party, which was hosted most appropriately at Chumley's. Though I generally shy away from these types of events, this one felt special for a number of reasons. So, after taking a brief walk around my old professional stomping ground, we poked our heads into the old speakeasy, accepted a wheat beer (my most favorite) and sought out Kevin Walsh for some sincere congratulation.
What was most endearing about the evening, atmosphere and good company aside, was how Kevin's work had touched the people in the room. Of anyone who might have scored a book deal without having to shop a manuscript, I whole heartedly believe that Kevin is the most deserving. He has a passion for discovery and knowledge that is infectious. Forgotten New York has been an inspiration to people young and old. I still remember the first time I visited the site-- late spring 1999-- and how it encouraged me to think differently about how and what I looked at.
In both its forms, Forgotten New York is a constant reminder that no matter what you think you know about a place, there is always more to learn. Kudos to Kevin. Book deal well awarded and publication well done.
Last week, many of you shared the greatest lesson you ever learned. I realized that I forgot to tell you mine, which came to me upon returning to New York after college graduation: No matter what you might think is the bottom line, there is always something deeper. Forgotten New York did not necessarily teach me this lesson, but it did enhance it, because for every detail you discover, there is always a different lens through which it can be examined. That is, for me, one of the best elements of life.
Happy Friday. Don't forget that it is Mallomar Season. Stock up.

It was love at first sight. My first reaction to visiting Forgotten New York was to take a deep, deep breath. Ahh, now that is a site to see.
Congrats and continued success to Kevin who loves what he does and spreads the love for all of us to share. Long may you run.
