Weekend Worthy

Alexis has been working crazy hours for the past few weeks. It is hit or miss whether I can stay up late enough to see him. Some nights I do and others, I roll over at 3am and find the lump that is my husband, sucking in as much sleep as possible before he has to rise and do the same thing all over again.

Last night, as I pressed my face into his neck as a half-wakeful hello, he turned his head and said,"We must prepare our swords."

"Our swords? Why so?" I asked, now fully awake and curious.

Lifting one arm slightly, he replied, "Because we are preparing for battle," then shot upright, swiveled, and announced that he had to pee.

Welcome weekend, welcome.

Dude, what the heck does he do that would have him subconsciously thinking of swords and battle? No, wait...probably best that I not know.

I'm not sure if it's his job or what he's been reading lately that contribited to his dream...

Seems reasonable to me. Of course, I'm the person who, while sound asleep -- according to reliable reporters -- said, "Go away: I'm a Communist plot!"

hee hee - that is too funny. I sometimes wake up to this ridiculous scary snorting sound which is my fiance trying to 'scare things away' in his dream. It's very odd. At least now I know what it is!

ah sleep deprivation and resultant sleep talking -- all too familiar. the first month my boyfriend and i began sharing a bed i had horrible allergies which had me up constantly throughout the night either sniffling or blowing my nose. as a result he began consistently talking in his sleep; often the conversations were more like inquisitions and in his sleep stupor he'd become very annoyed with my inability to answer correctly. luckily we've moved past this --- at least until the next allergy season strikes.

I once woke my then-11-year-old son for school one morning, and he came out with, "The explorers that followed Columbus destroyed the authentic Stone Age civilization of the Native Americans." Huh?
