Ablaze

It is pretty hot, folks, and apparently it is just going to get hotter. We finally broke down on Sunday and installed our second air conditioner, though it only seemed to make a minor difference in our top floor apartment. The winner of crankiest creature in the household must go to the Littlest Feline, who lost her hiding space to the additional a/c. Olive paw slapped me so hard this weekend that not only did her claw get stuck in my skin but she also left a minor bruise across the bridge of my nose.
But really, what better way is there to beat the heat than to go to the dentist?
Alexis and I both have dentist appointments this afternoon. I am embarrassed to say that it has been almost three years since I have gone. I have a lot of anxiety about it (obviously) which probably springs from a few awful oral surgeries that I had as a kid. I have never had a cavity, though the last time I went to the dentist he told me to be way of my gums. Wish me luck. Though I figure, no matter what, at least it will be nice and cool in the examination room.
AND you get a free toothbrush, so everyone wins. Sort of.

good luck! i recently had a surprisingly painless dental check-up after a 2 or 3-year hiatus myself. if you happen to leave the office disillusioned today (or if the office ac is on the fritz), i recommend dr. dressel (2nd place btwn clinton and court) -- his office was perfectly chilly, his hygienist offered me 5 or 6 disgustingly wonderful flavors of toothpaste (i chose mint), and he put an end to my sensitive teeth pain. he did refer to my husband as "hubby," but i guess you can't have it all.

the lack of dental insurance keeps me away from the dentist. i think i went about a year ago (it was about 3 years before that). i should go again as i'm now a domestic partner.
i got that same gum warning too.

i actually have had insurance (though my old job had better dental) but i just avoid going like the plague. i always feel like i am going to be yelled at by the dentist.

I saw your pictures from the Night of Fire and it looked like so much fun! I am filled with lament that I missed it.
As for the dentist, you and my husband are totally alike, except when I tired of nagging him, I threatened to "buy something expensive" for every day he did not make an appointment. He made one less than an hour later. Drats, really.

Night of Fire was fun but very, very sweaty.
