Well, Whaddya Know

Someone got into graduate school yesterday. It might have been me.
Actually, it was Irving, who spent the greater part of last fall applying to several doctoral programs throughout the country. He was accepted into them all based on his groundbreaking research—the social and gastronomical implications of gentrification and urban development on feline hairball production. Assailed for his avant-garde approach toward the study, which has involved placing himself as the main subject, he was offered a full ride to several upper tier institutions. He is currently in the process of choosing which program fits him best.
I was also accepted into a graduate program, though far less rigorous and prestigious. I will only be seeking a master’s degree, but am nevertheless excited.

Where are you going? What will you be studying?
That's great news.

Congratulations Irving - Well Done. I am sure it was a hard decision to leave your rabinical studies for academia but I support your decision.
Oh - yes and congratulations to you too, Corie.

I was floored that he left his studies, as well. I think he feels more grounded with this research. He shares his hairball progress with us on a daily basis.
I'm not actually going anywhere-- I applied to an American Studies program via the university that I work at. I'll be doing it part time while working full time...a little chaotic, but the upswing is that I get the degree for free. Woot!

Congrats once again!

Does this mean we have to get a Irving a desk too?

I'd prefer to buy him a proper recepticle for both his hairballs and now ever-more-frequent rug poops.

Congrats! I had every confidence. But no matter how good that application feels, you still don't relax until you get the acceptance. Nice job. I think you are really going to enjoy this degree.

Well I remember the long conversation he and I had that night - and the difficult theologic questions we had to ask oursevles. Are Fur-Balls more tangible than G-D and if so how does this effect our belief system as a country?

Congratulations! I will not be the bitter voice of a long time grad student and try to convince you not to do it!
