Quiet Nerves

2006-04-29 11.jpg

Final exam today, then the writing of the vows. Our family has begun to arrive and the wedding is quickly approaching. We are bundles of nerves, quietly. Posts might dwindle in the coming days. We'll see.

Unrelated: Frustrated with taking Irving to the vet every few months, I finally broke down and went to a holistic pet store. Usually the vet prescribes Oybean prednisone, which really isn't good for anyone in prolonged doses, and I wanted to see if I could find something less harmful to his system. The holistic pet store manager sold me some kind of fish oil. I was skeptical, but I must say that Irving's chin scabs have greatly reduced and, while his tummy is still bald and damp, he is chilling out with the licking. Who would've thunk it?

Tell me where this store is?
Our cats have been having strange(r) than usual emotional issues lately.
Have a fantastic wedding - looking forward to hearing about it.

Our cats developed chin scabs and our vet told us to stop using plastic bowls. Once we switched back to ceramic food dishes, the scabs disappeared and all was right with the world.

Sadly, Irving's allergies are far worse than that. He's had them ever since he was a kitten and is allergic to both topical and airborn irritants. Basically, the irritation takes over his entire system and makes him really sick and unhappy.

Tiya-- we went to a place called Whiskers, I think, in the East Village on I think 9th Street btw 2nd and 3rd (?)

I love that we're talking about chin scabs like DAYS before your wedding! ha ha. I'm glad the fish oil is working; it's nice when you find a holistic cure that helps.

Just want to give my support for hollistic / all natural cat treatments. My kittie had crystals in her bladder (and randome digestive issues) and I read up on things (after we cured her painful problem with antibiotics) and they pointed to hardfood and food with fish. Apparently, cats are not actually supposed to eat fish or dairy--they are fairly strict carnivores compared with dogs who are omnivores. Now we blend the hard and soft food and buy all natural cat food and she's really good. It's slightly more expensive, but it's cheaper than the vet!! And let's just say you can't put a price on avoiding digestive disorders in your pets.

Where is this holistic vet?

My dog has terrible allergies as well (lots of foot licking and chin scratching). Does he treat dogs too?

It's actually not a vet-- it's a store. I don't wholly trust everything that they sell, but the guy at the store was very helpful. I would run any suggestion that they give by a vet, though, simply over the phone. The store is in the East Village and it's called Whiskers.
