Comfort

There is a large amount of comfort in the Lexacor household. We are happy at where our lives are. More than anything, we are content. Now that such evenness has been established, space has opened up for us to obsess about smaller things. This weekend was a prime example. Sunday, normally reserved simply for house cleaning (which often takes upward of three hours anyway), was coined Project Comfort and dedicated to three members of the family—Alexis, Irving, and me.
Summer is fast approaching, which means that heat is inevitable. Unlike me who has nary a circulatory system, Alexis is almost always warm. We knew when we moved upstairs that air conditioners were going to be an issue. Being on the top floor and having high ceilings, it was inevitable that we would require some sort of cooling system, particularly at night, and mostly for my dear husband.
To nip this in the bud, we created a plan. Not only would be buy a new a/c on Sunday, but we would also reorganize the house so that our bed, which was normally in the living room, would newly reside in our back hall. This required the unbolting and moving of three large freestanding closets and a tense game of furniture Tetris to make everything fit. Four hours later, we achieved a high level of success. Our living room is now a real living room in which people can sit without having to stare at our bedding. When the time comes for artificial cooling, Lex’s head will be right in the stream of cold air.
Additionally, as part of the Lexacor negotiations at Lowes, I purchased a long coveted rug for the front room, partly to add color and warmth to the otherwise stark area, but mostly to appease another member of the family: Irving.
As soon as the rug was laid out, Irving was sitting on it, a great achievement in our household as he has refused to set foot in the living room for the past six months. But Irving did not just come to sniff out the new goods. He remained on the rug all night, despite the presence of his nemesis, Olga, and during those hours, he did not lick his bald, wet stomach once.
He did make a move to barf on it around 1:30 a.m., but luckily (or not) I was still awake and manage to navigate his heaving away from the floor covering.
The one downside to the situation: when we primed and painted the apartment in November, we did not bother with the space behind the closets, as at the time we had no intention of ever moving them. As a result, we now have a large, grey, nicotine-stained patch of wall as a headboard. Smells like another trip to Lowes.

We were searching for that certain color scheme and pattern that might hide...cat vomit stains...

cool, sounds like Lexacor Feng Shui to me. I agree, nice choice of rug and I can certainly vouch for the movement of a bed to make sleeping conditions cooler, great idea.

i've got to find bedding that hides kitten poop. not that we would want to keep those sheets on or anything.

uh oh. randolph isn't litter trained? try covering the entire bed with a large flat sheet when you're not using it. we do that to keep fur off the bed, but it works for other, um, issues too.

Happy Nesting! We're still in this phase, and love it. This weekend, we looked at vacuums! (Oh man, I just admitted that. Look, I'm sure you guys won't be as big dorkwads as us. Or at least that is not inevitable.)

Oh, we dorked out on vacuums before we got married. Our Miele sucks big time, in a good way, and we really need that because of all the fur in the house.

That is a lovely rug, and I'm glad Mr. Irving likes it too. Do the other cats like it?

Corie did you chop your hair? Looks super cute.

Yeah, it's really short and a little too layered. It kind of makes me feel like I am 40.

As the owner (read: staff) of an old, incontinent, spite-pooping, vomiting cat with digestive issues (and who requires pills that aren't approved in Canada, so must be acquired in the U.S.), I commiserate with you on the small joys of Cat Household Achievements!
But, happy cats = happy household!

The ability to hide cat barf stains is my #1 requirement in a rug. Hence, I'm currently rug-less. But I've got my EYE on one, and once I get that damn Bed Bath and Beyond coupon in the mail it's mine. MINE.
