It Can't Hurt to Ask

So, who knows of a good marching band for hire in NYC?

Requirements: small-ish (like just a couple of people), willing to work without a permit, willing to have some good, quick fun. And must be able to play some sort of valid version of Duke Ellington's "Such Sweet Thunder."

We can pay them with limited funds, beer, food, and lots of love.

Suggestions?

That's cool that you're going to have a party with a marching band. That's so punk rock.

Not quite a party...let's call it a procession of sorts.

Hungry March Band and Rude Mechanical Orchestra, but neither group is small, can't speak for their ability to play any particular song.

Oooh, an old friend--an unbelievable trombonist--used to do a marching band gig on the side. They were (are?) excellent. If I can get in contact with him, I'll pass the info along. I have no doubt he'd be able to hook you up or at least point you in a better direction.

I'm going to second the Hungry Marching Band. They're fun.

I know, they would be perfect. Unfortunately, I don't think that we can afford them. We're totally bummed.
