Sucks to Be the Little One

2006-02-20 thelittlestfeline.jpeg

Sometimes it sucks to be the little one. Your brothers and sisters pick on you unmercifully, often mistaking you for an animated catnip mouse. Everything and everyone is bigger than you, leading to a size complex that needs to be made up for somehow most frequently through the emission of yowls that might register on the Richter scale. Olive is experiencing this full force these days. Her full nine pounds is no match for the other cats in the Lexacor household and they know it.

Morning and night is marked with the inevitable squawk of Little-O followed by the rumble of eight Robie paws. Olga and Frieda tend to gang up on her from both sides, backing her into a corner, and her brother, enmeshed in his own battle with obsessive-compulsive licking, will have nothing to do with her rescue.

This week marks the beginning of The Littlest Feline series, otherwise known as Olive Fights Back. Let us celebrate the power of the underdog, or at least support Little-O in her solitary effort.

you should let olive's nails grow out, but clip the nails of all the other cats.

Have you tried Feliway, yet? Apparently, it works well at calming down cranky multi-cat households.

Yeah, we did. No dice. :(

My heart goes out to Little O. Its not nice to picked on. I think all the other cats should be put on a diet to even the scales a bit.....unless they would start considering to be a food item.

Awww poor Miss Olive. I hope things settle down and she stops getting teased and picked on.

You know, Olive is in a submissive position in that slide show. She's not really fighting back. Looked like she was playing. Don't know about Uncle Irv though.

Yes, she always plays with Irving. It's the other 2 cats that scare the crap out of her. She's never in the dominant position.

hey, you should build a cat-walk/shelf up the wall that's only big enough for olive to climb up. then she can have some space all her own. or outfit her with some cat-sized body armor.

Maybe Olive needs fake cat claws.

Maybe Olga and Frieda are jealous because Olive is the most youthful. I think Irving should stand up for his little sis. Little-O needn't feel too bad, though, because at my house she'd be the biggest kitty (I have 2 8.5 lb girls).
