Girl Pants: I can barely type this because I feel so old.

Park Slopes Seventh Avenue is the poster street for high school cliques. On any given day, one can plot the sediments of stylethe Abercrombie kids, the punks, the geeks, and all those other labels that I swore I would not put on kids, but now that I am certifiably old, I find myself doing.

A few weeks ago, dragging myself home from work and in my own little world, I looked ahead to find two of the skinniest, lankiest boys I had ever seen. I was puzzled for a moment, wondering why their thinness was so apparent, and then realized that their bottom halves were clad in something black and very tightso tight that at first I thought they were wearing lycra.

I shrugged, as this is Park Slope and you never know what type of politically correct non-gender-assigned after school activities parents might have their kids in, such as modern punk ballet or something of that nature. When I got closer, it became apparent that these boys were wearing some of the tightest black jeans I had ever seen painted on a body

My first response was "Good god, somebody but a loincloth on these children!" Then my mind drifted to "Cant that greatly reduce their chance of offspring later in life?" Then finally, "Thank goodness these kids are shaped like stringbeans, or we would have a crisis much like the female low-slung-ass-crack phenomenon."

I have the good fortune of friends with fifteen year olds, so naturally, I inquired. The answer was "girl pants." Girl pants? What do you mean, "girl pants"? Apparently, I am retarded and this is the Emo style. I guess that I will be buying friends kids shoehorns for the holidays. In the meantime, I just hope that none of them drop anything on the ground. I dont think that they can bend that far.

Tssk. Kids these days.

Girl pant...hmm. Not is this hood yet as far as I know, but what do I know? I must consult my teenage fashion guru, Christine. Now, as for feeling old...back in the day, the '70s day, both genders wore skin-tight jeans. I remember helping a friend zip-up. She was lying on her bed and we both were grasping the zipper while she chanted "pull, pull". Once zipped, she tilted off the bed into an upright position and we walked out hoping there would be no need for bending in the near future. If you need to zip alone the use of a bent wire hanger, hooked into the zipper, was common. Dangerous and sometimes very painful side effects of this method were common. I mean ouch! What price fashion?

feel so cool that this is one that i know and could be informative about - for better or worse.

yeah...the super tight jean was popular in the early 80's for those who emulated Joey Ramone. To think that heroin chic is back...and in emo circles no less. Zoinks! When I moved back to DC my oldster pal Don and I went to this place called the Black Cat in the wee morning hours. They were playing music in the "back room" and as we entered ELO was blasting. We both looked at each other and cracked up...it was just like Junior High for us. Everything old is new again!

i remember the super tight jeans, too, but only on girls. during my lawn guyland experience, i remember the death metal chicks wearing skin tight acid washed "jeans" with wrestling shoes and humongous teased hair. actually, i think that there are quite a few women on long island who still maintain that style.

When you say "girl pants"...do you mean they are tight so they can show girls what they have in their pants? Like a Speedo? Eeew.

I think-- but I could be wrong-- that they are actually girl sized pants. But maybe not, b/c these boys were tall.

Yes, the Joey Ramone phase. Many a guy friend sported this look back in the days. Good to see the ridiculous styles are coming back in some shape or form.

Tell me when culottes are cool again.

Girl pants are very very popular for "emo" or "punk" boys to wear. It's somewhat trendy at the moment. Most boys consider them confortable...especially the stretch ones. I've also seen them worn with boxers, therefore preventing the ass crack problem that girls have. I've even had a couple pair of my jeans stolen by some of my guy friends. Some people believe that only homosexual boys wear them, but that's not the case. Designers have not yet made a tight jean made for boys, besides wranglers or levis, which aren't the same fit or style. Therefore, the boys are buying their jeans in girl sizes. I think it's really sexy and I love it because now I can trade jeans with not only my girlfriends but my guy friends as well!

Ok this is funny. Rob got it right. It's really popular among the emo crowd. It's funny listening to everyone talk about how odd it is! It is odd though.
They are actual GIRL jeans though...not boys that look like girls. It makes em look hot. :-D And yeah, it is a lot of gay and bi guys that wear em, but most defanitely not the only ones. I think it's cool, but weird too.
