West Side Layers

West Side Highway/West 14th Street
I try to take a walk around my office at least two times a week. There is so much construction going on in the Meatpacking District; every time I turn around something else is being torn down, gutted, and spit shined into a new, swank state. It is quite remarkable.
Today I stopped to peer into a bar/restaurant opposite the Highline called, duh, Highline (Yes, I am aware that it opened in July. I just ignored it until now). I then turned the corner at W13th Street to find a gigantic construction site. Peeking inside, I saw workers tearing away at the land around the end of the High Line. Does anyone know what is up with that? It made my stomach lurch.

i think that bloomburg got some cash from the feds to re-develop the highline. i believe that the plan is to expand it and then turn it into an elevated park. it will be beautiful and neat because we can go up there, but i think it will loose a lot of its' charm.

Lex thinks the construction might be part of the DEP water tunnel project-- I'd forgotten about that. I'm going to walk by again today and see if they are listed on the construction permits.
