Putting in My Five Cents

Since where did they change the back of a nickel?

I noticed them, too. Passed em on to my dad, who's collecting all the state quarters.

Also keep your eye out for a Wisconsin quarter that has an extra (or two extra?) leaf on the the corn. I think they're mainly showing up in the southwest.

Will they change the pennies next? Didn't they talk about abolishing the penny at some point?

I read somewhere that the backs were changed in honor of the Lewis And Clark expedition, which was sponsored by Jefferson. There is ANOTHER nickel out there that features two crossed "peace pipes" on the back.
And I've learned that they are going to change the FACE of the nickel (with a close-up picture like on the currency) and with yet ANOTHER back, this time of a buffalo.
I guess we could say that it's the Year of the Nickel. :)
