One is the Loneliest Number

One 2" round of goat cheese. ONE. In a large Fresh Direct box. By itself. Alone.

Fresh Direct wins the bizarre packing award, otherwise known as ultimate carboard waster.

yesterday i also received a large box, from fedex. inside it was full of styrofoam peanuts, and after digging through it for several minutes i retrieved one (1) large butcher knife. it was quite surreal, esp since i just finished reading "American Psycho" the night before. but it turns out my dad thought i could use a new cooking knife. uh, thanks dad!

this didn't even have peanuts! just one lowly round of goat cheese. fresh direct does this all the time. i think it has something to do with products coming from different warehouses or something. it's pretty rediculous, though.

Oo, I just ordered that goat cheese. I'll let you know if they package it the same way for me. hee!

Corie: Why did you just order one item from FD? Is it cost-effective, especially in a huge box?

Posted by: josˇ at January 27, 2005 1:54 PM

see, that's the weird thing-- it was part of a much larger order, but the only dairy in the order, which is why i think it had its own box.

FD doesn't deliver unless you order $40 worth of stuff. That's why I don't use them...

i'm pretty sure it's just one warehouse, but i think they like to keep things separate. besides, what happens if someone is kosher. makes sense that they would keep the different items in different boxes.

Besides the packing issue, another wierd thing about Fresh Direct:
Their avocados are the size of footballs.

That's why I stopped using Fresh Direct. They are scary and their shameless use of packaging makes me feel like an evil world-destroying tycoon.

You just reminded me that I forgot to eat my avocado. Oops.

I only use Fresh Direct when I am feeling exceptionally lazy or stressed...or both. I knew I wasn't going to make it to the market this week, which would have meant that I'd be eating Smartfood from the vending machine for days on end.
