Meow, You'll Be a Woman Soon

2004-12-15 worry2.jpg

Well, today is the day. Olive and I rose early and I am about to pack her (in a) bag for her long awaited surgical holiday. She will return with a funny shaved belly and some seriously tied tubes…and hopefully a little mellower.

I must admit that I am a little nervous about her standard feline procedure. Irving came to me already neutered, so I did not need to deal with any motherly anxiety regarding his kitty balls. Adding to my worry is this new tidbit of information: I can't pick Olive up from the vet for three days.

The vet confirmed that it would only be one day, not three. Apparently, the dude at the desk thought I was getting Olive declawed. DECLAWED? Who the hell does that to their cat anymore??

THREE DAYS? That seems like an awfully long time to me. What will Irving sit on? Who will scatter kitten poo everywhere? Who will run circles in the tub squawking and muttering to herself? Well, I guess I could fill in on the last one.

what, you don't scatter your poo all over the place?

How old is Olive? my kitten is almost 9 months and thats going to be her New Years present...mine likes to squak to herself while attacking her shoebox

tien: no, i'm not into that kind of thing. but if you are, i'm sure you can find many sites on the web that meet your fancy :)

jeff: olive is about 8 months old. i was supposed to spay her 6 months ago but i kept forgetting and needed to save my pennies. it's so much more expensive to fix a girl cat!

the money part does sucks, thats why im waiting...i have to get shots and everything its $160 at the vet i talked to.

yeah, it was 200+ for me, as she needed the rabies shot and something else. that is her xmas/hanukkah present this year: a life of barrenness.

Declaw? Hmm. I would never ever get a cat declawed, but my legs would probably appreciate it.

louisa lay in her litter box for a few hours after i picked her up from her "fixing" and looked at me like she'd never feel well again (her eyes were running from the anesthesia, which made her look even more pathetic.) we both survived, though.
i just heard a terrible declawing story: my husband's friend told me her kitten died, and when i pressed for details, she said they declawed him, he got an infection after the surgery, and died during the follow up surgery. why?? why??!

yeah, declawing sucks for the cat and is strictly for wuss humans who think furniture is more important than living things.

corie, did you look into that low-cost spay certificate thing? http://muffins.org/

Posted by: ChrisG at December 16, 2004 4:14 PM

I did-- I actually bought the certificate...then I found out that Olive had to be a real stray. They told me that I could lie but I'd already brought her in, etc., and given the history that I'd adopted her, etc. It pretty much sucked. Chris, do you want my certificate for your next stray cat?

Posted by: corie at December 16, 2004 4:18 PM

gosh i hope olive doesn't lay in her litter box wheni bring her home tomorrow.

ew.

Posted by: corie at December 16, 2004 4:19 PM

wha? it's only for confirmed strays? i didn't know that. i still technically have my certificate since the cat i was planning on using it for didn't make it. and anyway, i'm through with that whole stray cat thing! no more cats for me, that's right! i swear.

Oh poor poopie, she actually looks excited. ignorance, bliss, etc.
