Let the Circus Begin

Seen: 5:30 a.m.
7th Avenue, Brooklyn
Shuffling down the street in my pj's to buy the paper, I am greeted by five network news teams who had nested themselves in a ring around PS 321.

Heard: 7:00 a.m.
John Jay HS, Brooklyn
While signing the register to vote, the woman behind me discovers that her husband is listed as eligible to vote.

He voted on Saturday.

Did you get interviewed?

My polling station at 7:00am was pretty much empty, but at least they were relatively organized unlike the last time I went there.

No, I crossed the street. I had literally just rolled out of bed, and if I had been approached by Fox 5 I would have had only nasty things to say.

fox 5 has been known to film people from low angles and add 20 pounds.

i had an 8 minute wait.

and how does one vote on saturday in ny?

Posted by: tien at November 2, 2004 8:27 AM

Well, I would have been a post-Halloween fright, as my hair was sticking out in all directions and I was wearing a pair of sweatpants that were about 2 sizes too big. Probably covered in cat fur, too.

I didn't have to wait long, either-- about 15 minutes. It was mobbed when I left, though. I can't fathom what the schools will look like at 8:30pm.

I decided to vote first thing in the morning; I know how the man treats majority-African-American precincts. I waited about 20 minutes at 6:15.

Voters in NY could vote by absentee ballot only if they would not be present on voting day. This guy voted on Adams Street.

I should also note that, when the woman brought it to the attention of the guy overseeing the voting process at John Jay, he huffed and said I'm not with the Board of Elections. If he were to vote they would probably catch it after the fact.

After the fact? How does that help anything?

Huh. Weren't no news people at my polling place. Probably a good sign, actually.
It was more crowded than I've ever seen it, at 7:45 am. I wonder if it'll be worse or better this evening.

Seen: 9:20am
Where: 34th street/8th Avenue
Line, around the block, for the citizen's action bus heading to PA to get the vote out for Kerry.
More busses on the way.

It took me an hour to vote... I'm slow with the pencil. Oddly enough, the line for people who needed to register (and then vote), was faster than the "only voting" line.
