Old Haunt While Waiting for Dimitri

Roof footbridge between 517 & 519 East 77th & 78th Streets

The Cherokee is the former Shively Sanitary Tenement, one of the first NYC tenements built specifically for families with a member suffering from tuberculosis. They have finally completed the facade resotration, and it is beautiful. It almost makes me regret moving to Brooklyn.
While I am on my quick Brooklyn tryst for rest, I thought I'd upload tomorrow's posting, as I will most likely be too tired to put any thought into it on Friday.
We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of little Dimitri, who, like his soon-to-be mother and my best friend of nearly 15 years, is late.

Holy shit, Corie. We lived in the same 'hood! My first NYC apartment was E. 78th, across from the pool (shame we never met). I, too, always loved Cherokee building. I was mesmerized by it each time I walked past and I'm glad to hear the restoration is done.

Oh, and I never knew about that footbridge between the buildings. That would have given me yet another reason to wish I lived there. Beautiful.

Ayelet-- cool! I loved that building, though it was under construction the entire time that I was there. I never got to see or use the courtyards or the roof (except when I snuck in). I'm sure the interior courtyards are beautiful now. The exterior certainly is.
