Mmm...noodles

Back in the day, when I lived in the Village and my dinners consisted primarily of takeout, one of my favorite things to order were cold sesame noodles from Charlie Mom's. There is something about the combination of ginger, garlic, and peanut butter...you just cannot go wrong.

The September/October issue of Cook's Illustrated featured a recipe for cold sesame noodles. On Sunday, confined to the house due to very achy muscles (I did my first training 13.1 on Saturday-- whoo hoo! It is really different to run a half marathon and it not to be a race.), I decided to give the noodles a shot.

I had to improvise a bit-- you're technically supposed to use sesame paste, which I did not have, and I ran out of sesame oil (so much for sesame noodles) and had to use olive oil. I did happen to have sesame seeds. Why they were hanging out in my spice cabinet I cannot quite figure out. I also used perciatelli (fatter spaghetti that is hollow) to emulate (kind of) the texture of thick Asian noodles. Kimball had suggested regular spaghetti, but it just seemed to thin and boring to me.

Despite the substitutions, the noodles came out really well. The perciatelli gave an interesting texture. I'm sure that I completely bastardized the recipe, but it tasted good, and to me that's all that matters.

They were also very easy to make..and filling. I have lunch for the next few days...or one giant carbo load for my next long run.

Yum. Cold sesame noodles. Gotta love 'em.

I know, it's one of my favorites. I love Chococat. Friends gave it to me for my birthday several years ago.
