NUD*IST and Raw Data Dump

Oy vey. Could that sound any worse?

Who in their right mind named this qualitative research software NUD*IST (Non-numerical Unstructured Data, Indexing Searching and Theorizing)? Seriously, folks, my geek humor only stretches so far.

Try stepping into Barnes and Noble and asking the boy behind the help counter if they have any books on qualitative research and data analysis, specifically, NUD*IST. No, not nudist, NUD*IST. No, not naked people. Nerdy research. Raw data dumping. Oy. Here we go again.

But back to being serious. Does anyone out there use NUD*IST? I'm not a qualitative researcher, though it seems that my job is heading, unskilled and whirling, in that direction.
