Visting DC Skutch

This weekend I took the Dragon Coach (or one of its hybrids-- I'm still not sure) down to visit my Skutchie in his new DC environs. It was a nice, albeit short, visit.

Skutchie has a beautiful apartment in DuPont-- far nicer than his one here. It has two small balconies and a lot of light, one detail that his NYC apartment sorely lacked. Of course, I failed at my one mission, which was to take pictures of the place. While he was pretty much unpacked, Skutch hadn't really decorated and I'm fairly anal about photographing finished products. Just take my word that the apartment was really nice.

We walked around DC all day Saturday. There are some really fun antique shops in his area. We found this...well, I don't know what you'd call it other than a Boy George replica...in the basement of one.

As you can see, DC is not without its fun, weird signage. This was a deli next door to the running shop, where Skutch and I stopped to investigate upcoming races. Close to that was a liquor store/deli that sold H&H bagels, much to Skutch's delight.

In all, DC is cute. The architecture is beautiful and seemingly untouched, which was fun. I like a city where you can feel the history oozing from its brick and stone. I think DC a good, fresh start for my other half. I don't really understand the city, or really feel like it's a city, but I think that might be because of the neighborhoods that we spent most of our time in. On the other hand, maybe I'm just a NY snob. Yeah, that's probably it.

was there a disturbing republican vibe while there? because that would have irked me.

hmm. oddly, there were no vibes. i don't know if that is good or bad. we didn't go near the mall area, though. skutch's neighborhood seemed really quiet. maybe everyone was in NYC at the protest or something.

I would say that the conversations I have been party to has been very liberal. I think that is the make up of Dupont Circle. It is a fairly aware city, and people are not shy to take a position on anything.

I do need to get to the mall. I would have suggested that as the run, had calla brought her running gear.

It was so good to have her visit, no matter how long or short in this case the visit was.
