can someone explain to me how einstein was a leader? at least, in the literal sense?

I'm an Einstein too. Uncovering the fundamental principles of physics not enough leadership? ;)
Einstein played an active role in getting Roosevelt to start the Manhattan project (not an easy task for a pacifist). After the war he was opposed the development of nuclear weapons, and was a proponent of educating people on the dangers of nuclear energy. He was also an important advocate for the creation of the State of Israel (he turned down the offer to be its second president) and was one of the founders of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
