Woofspa

Woofspa; Hudson Street, NYC
I've been thinking about vacations a lot lately, even spas. So when the word "spa," written on the window of a building, caught my eye, I had to stop. But something was odd in the waiting room. Yes, yes...the people sitting in the waiting room-- they weren't people at all-- they were DOGS. There was a giant dog sitting on a leather couch, a pug scampering around on the shagg rug, and some other canine chewing on (what I hope was) a bone in the far corner of the reception area. This was a spa for dogs.
I kid you not.
I spent many a year on the UES. I saw the doggie daycares come and go, though I never saw anything like this.
As Citysearch notes, Woofspa and Resort offers special precision cuts, oatmeal baths, hot oil treatment, massages, and "peticures" to its most pampered pooches for about $24 a day. I say, if I went in and gave them $24, would they pamper me, too?

Note the reflection of the man who stopped when he saw me photographing this. He stood there for a while, scratching his head, and then looked at me. We shared a "isn't this so unbelievable that it's believable?" look before parting ways.
Apparently, there's a Meowspa in tbe mix. Hmph. Irving's got a spa right here in Park Slope. It's called my bed, especially when there's a nice, freshly laundered sweatshirt draped oven the edge. Oyspa. Yeah, that's what I'm talkin' about...

i think that's the basic rate. i'm sure the oatmeal bath, etc., adds up. if not, i wonder if i could get certified as a canine.

i just love how there appears to be no humans present. and the big dog politely sitting on the couch, so well-mannered. this is one of those things that i would think was staged if it happened anywhere but here.

there weren't any humans present! it was truly bizarre...and that dog sitting on the couch looked so demure. it was as if everything was natural, except that the characters were dogs, not people.

Let me guess, they supply the dogs with organic, vegan "bones" and do Doga (doggy for of yoga). The favorite position is the "upward human"...
Sheesh.

Why is it called downard dog, anyway? Looks like a cat stretch to me.
I think that Irving needs a spa and facial scrub to help his acne. I wonder if I could arrange a seaweed facial for him.
