Whole Lotta Helicopters
There's a whole lot of helicopters (police and military, I think) hovering around my office area in the West Village this morning.
I guess this type of presence is supposed to make people feel safe, but it makes me edgy and uncomfortable and only reminds me of the constant sonic boom of fighter jets patrolling Manhattan in the days after September 11.

my old office was in 7 WTC, and when my company relocated to 3 World Financial Center (adjacent to the WTC), i felt sort of cocky about heading back downtown. but my first day on the 23rd floor was upset by the sound of an airplane zooming towards the building. turned out to be some kind of military jet just flying by, but it was a little freaky at first.

i wonder if that jittery feeling will ever go away.
i was in our new office site the other day, which has a rather spectacular view of the empire state building. i was taken aback by my initial reaction...i stood there, taking in the view, and my first thought was "wow, this is a replica of our old view of the wtc (angle and distance-wise). i don't want my cubicle to face this...i can't watch another building explode and topple."
