Thawing My Bones

I am sitting at my desk trying to convince myself that I'm not hungry so that I don't have to go outside to get lunch.

This is weather that I thought I had left behind-- due to global warming and the fact that I no longer live in New England. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the cold. I'd never want to live somewhere that didn't have 4 seasons, as each lasts just long enough to make you yearn for the next. But this weather...this is the cold that my body just cannot handle.

I must thank my mother for this. She comes from a long line of non-circulatory women and I have directly inherited the trait. When the weather dips below 10 degrees, my body stops producing heat, as well as the ability to maintain what it has.

This morning, as I walked from the W4th Street station toward the Hudson, I felt my ankles slowly lose feeling (yes, it was my fault that I didn't wear boots with my skirt, I know). By the time I got to my coffee vendor, my legs were numb. And now, several hours later, every joint in my entire body aches. I'm walking around like the Tin Man, my hips, knees, and shoulders in some serious need of oiling...or Celebrex-ing.

Instead of turning into a block of ice, my body has morphed into an arthritic 90-year-old woman. Sheesh.

Wait until you hit 30! Then you won't even need the cold to feel that way. Do they have BINGO in your neighborhood?

goodness, mp, i forgot that you'd already started the downward descent of life. plus, now you're a daddy of 2, which means that you'll age twice as fast!
