HAZMAT Toys

I've had a little obsession with Playmobil toys lately. They're kind of like big Lego people, except they come with way cooler accessories. Actually, now that I think about it, they're like a cross between Lego people and Matchbox car cities (you know, with the car wash, garage, etc.).
ANYWAY. I was poking around on Playmobil's website tonight and found their City Life/Rescue 911 section (that's actually what it's called). There are all sorts of stuff, such as emergency rooms, ambulances, fire trucks...and then the above HAZMAT truck. Wha? Isn't that kind of, um, a heavy topic for a little kid to play with? Of course, Im heading to the toy store tomorrow to buy one, but thats beside the point. It irks me that this would be marketed toward little kids.
But then again, this is coming from the gal who, up until about 4 years ago, thought that the HAZMAT truck as an Israeli ambulance company. For real.

i think the "Getaway Car" is more disturbing (under the "Police" section). i like the criminals, one is a pimp and the other looks like Elwood Blues. very educational.

Wow, I never noticed that one. I think that Playmobil is a European company (although the US site has a NJ address), which might explain some of its oddities. I wonder if it's a Nordic country or something, as everyone in Playmobil world is white, unless you buy the special multicultural package, where everyone is black. The "Native Americans" are all in headdresses.

wait, the european thing or the new jersey thing might explain some of its oddities?

Playmobil is headquartered in Zirndorf, Germany. I'm surprised that even use the term "Native Americans".

I have a swell Playmobil vulture with a few assorted bones that lives atop my monitor here at work. The vulture is jointed at the legs and neck so that you can play "pick at the bones" with it. Such lovely child's play.

one of my friends in elementary school had the playmobil castle, dungeon and all. i was very jealous.

Corie if you like this HAZMAT deal I recommend you rent the great flick "Toxic Avenger" from the Troma gang. New Jersey's first super hero they claim!
