The Cat Has All the Issues
Have I mentioned that Irving has chin acne? I must have at some point. Of all the cats I could have possibly chosen from the E92nd Street ASPCA, I chose the one orange cat who is allergic to everything.
The scabs began to surface when he was about a year and a half old, or, from what I've since surmised, when we moved from my basement apartment to an apartment that was actually exposed to air and dust. Fearing mites, I took the poor feline to the vet.
About $200 later, I learned that Irving had allergies and there wasn't much that I could do. According to the UES vet, Oybean is probably allergic to dust, pollen, and certain oils in his food. As a result, he scratches his chin and eyebrows ferociously. As much as I've cleaned and dusted, Irving is still the blackhead king. And heat seems to exacerbate the whole thing.
Today was the last straw. After spending the day with Skutchie (who's having his own cat woes-- his has developed diabetes and is pissing all over the house), I walked in the door to find Irving with an eye swollen shut from scratching. I did a 180, got back onto the subway, and headed to the 14th Street Petco. Something had to be done.
Well kids, it turns out that they now make "Sensitive Skin" food for your feline...and there is over-the-counter hydrocortisone for them, as well. Pushing aside the thoughts on how ludicrous this situation was, I forked over the cash and hightailed it home so that I could re-feed my porky tabby and slather cream all over his head and chin.
He is now snoring on top of the couch, catching the direct A/C blast. If this cat's head doesn't look somewhat normal tomorrow, I'm going to scream.
Why do cats get all the issues?
*Note: Noticed that callalillie's been writing about her feline fetish a little too much lately? It's a bit of a coping mechanism, giving her some time to think about more miniscule, obsessive things while she deals with obtaining a mortgage (and not dying in the process). 'Nuff said.

The change in weather seemed to soothe his skin...though I do hope that the creams, litter and food that I bought had something to do with...you know, to justify the expanses...

I HAVE AN ALLEY CAT THAT CAME TO MY HOUSE FOR REFUGE FROM THE COLD LAST WINTER. SHE WAS REALLY FAT AND SASSY WHEN SHE ADOPTED US. DURING THE SUMMER SHE WOULD NOT STAY IN. SHE WAS INSUFFERABLE. WHO KNOWS WHAT SHE PICKED UP. I DID GIVE HER A DOSE OF FRONTLINE AND A HOME FLEA DIP AND I DONT SEE FLEAS. THE PROBLEM IS THAT SHE IS COVERED IN SCABS AROUND HER ENTIRE TORSO; STOMACH AND BACK. THEY ARE HIDDEN UNDER HER FUR. SHE IS ALSO LOSING WEIGHT. NO LONGER FAT OR SASSY. I KNOW A RESPONSIBLE PET OWNER FORKS OVER THE BUCKS FOR A VET - BUT WE JUST DON'T HAVE IT. I'M JUST TRYING TO GIVE THE KITTY A WARM HOME, LOVE, AND A FULL TUMMY. ANY SUGGESTIONS ABOUT WHAT MIGHT CAUSE THESE LITTLE SCABS OR HOW TO CURE THEM WITHOUT A VET?????
WOULD LOVE TO GIVE HER A BETTER/HEALTHIER LIFE.
