Podunking with Jieball & Skutchie

thegroup.jpg

Jieball, Skutchie, and I took Gothamist's lead and tried out Podunk (tea room, coffee house, bakery) last night. What a pleasure! And so yummy. See the pictures of us, food, and books here.

We decided on one hot (simple black tea with cream & sugar) and one cold (a fruit tea-- delicious), mainly because Jieball was incapable of making any decisions, even though it was her day. Regardless, we wound up with a large platter of the lightest, moistest foccacia, tiny quiches, scones, and cheese crackers, as well as a platter of deserts-- including very light, yummy cocoa cake, more scones, chocolate coconut bars and various other good-with-tea delicacies.

The store was empty when we got there. The owner, Elspeth Treadwell, let us move the furniture around to our liking and was incredibly patient while Jieball refused to make a decision. She was cutely excited to hear that Gothamist had mentioned her in their blog and was happy to let us take as many pictures as we wanted-- as long as they weren't of her.

In all, it was a very nice, calm evening, even if a good number of (very entertaining) hipsters passed through every now and again. I'd love to rent the place out for a small, simple event some time...

Oh! And she sent each of us home with a free cupcake! Now that's a plus.

skutchie, pieball, callalillie, these inventive monikers have made me green. I would like one please.

Glad you had a good time there; my friend went to Podunk for a bridal shower, which was nice, but maybe too small - hard to have an inclusive crowd, because tea is a sit-down type of food, versus a stand and mill around food.

Yeah, it seems like you'd need a small group. Very small. We had a spcial issue, but I thought that it was just because we didn't want to sit at the tables by the window...

Hmm. You were the original Jaysonian... can't we just keep that? After all, Erin and I still call one another EFH & CFH...
