No place like home
I was very happy to see my little orange Irving's face last night when I got home. It's wonderful to be back in NYC again. I arrived home to insurance problems and a clogged shower-- aah...life, back to normal!
I did have a good time in VT, though. I took a few backroad trips and discovered some beautiful hidden spots. Southern VT seems to only have about 3 main roads. All the rest are narrow and gravel-filled. I discovered several old graveyards that were really interesting. Most only had about ten headstones (some of them just stone markers). The majority of the graves were of small children and Civil War veterans. I pulled over a few times to check the sites out-- it was amazing to stand in these spots and know that so much history was surrounding you (and beneath your feet). One site in Dorset (a larger graveyard) had what seemed like an entire first generation of Irish settlers.
And, of course...
Mazel Tov! to my little buddy Liz (who isn't so little anymore), whose Bat Mitzvah we celebrated in Noho, MA on Saturday. I can't believe how grown up Liz has gotten. She's so friggin smart, too. I don't remember being that well put together at 13. Shizzo, I'm not that well put together now! One of the highlights of Saturday was watching Liz and her father "rock out" to various hip hop hits. Perhaps I will have some photographic evidence soon to back up my claim.
I also got in a few good runs. None of them exceeded about 7 miles, which I was a little disappointed about, but I had (and still have) this lingering cold. After a few miles it felt as though there was a hippo sitting on my lungs. I hope that I can get more into the swing of things now that I'm back in Brooklyn. The Women's Mini is this weekend, which I'm very excited about. Skutchie is going to give it a try with me.
