Now what's up with this poor feline? Or, rather, wtf is wrong with the owners? I admit that this is something that I would probably do to Irving...but only as a joke, and certainly not published in the NYTimes or where ever my father found this image.
Still, Irving might benefit from a face mask...for his allergies. Because, of course, of all felines that I might own, Irving DOES have allergies. And chin acne. Don't laugh. It exists and I am not insane. More about that some other time.
One more question. Why does this cat have paint on his paws?

Your father isn't the guy who runs the Spanish rubber products company found at trancho.com (rubber sheets, rubber hoses, - kinky, but not my kind of kinky. Though I'd love to know what rubber sheets with saddle straps are used for...). He's probably a distant relative.
